We are more than just a school, we are a family. In our school we pride ourselves on knowing each child as an individual. It is important to us that everyone has success in whatever way is important to them. That could be speaking on stage or performing to an audience for the first time, it could be earning a handwriting pen, or it could be scoring a goal in the league final. We want ensure that each and every one of our learners feels recognised for who they are – a unique and special person.
In May 2026 we adopted a new vision: Loving to learn: Learning to love. It expresses how important learning is (we are a school!) and that we are all on a journey to learn more and to understand the world and our place in it a little more each day. It also sets our learning alongside Christian love, care and concern for the wellbeing of the whole community (all of whom need our nurture and support).
In February 2026 we started accepting nursery children. We wanted to give younger children the opportunity to experience all that our wonderful early years setting. We only accept a few children each year, because we want it to be a quality experience where staff can focus more of their time to helping each and every child thrive. So get in touch with school sooner rather than later to book your child’s place!
In April 2025 our early years setting Happy Hollow received the Bronze Award at the Pearson National Teaching Awards. Superb recognition for the incredible work of our early years team led by Deputy Headteacher Mrs Linsley.
In August 2023 the school was delighted to become part of the Durham and Newcastle Diocesan Learning Trust. As an academy school we can share expertise and ideas with others in the academy in order to further improve the education which we offer to our children.
In February 2023 the school was inspected by Ofsted and achieved a grading of good. The opening sentences of the report sums up what our school is all about: Pupils at Green Lane are confident and articulate. They feel happy and safe in school.
In October 2021 we were delighted when Mr Goffee was announced as the winner of the Headteacher of The Year Award at the Northern Echo’s Education Award, recognising the way our school supported the community during such a difficult period for us all.
In July 2019 the school was judged as being in the top 5% of Church of England schools nationally with a judgement of ‘Excellent’ from SIAMS. At Green Lane we see the ultimate purpose of education as the promotion of “life in all its fullness” (St John’s Gospel, chapter 10, verse ).
