Summer Term 2019
Welcome to the Summer Term in 4/5 Ch/S
English: We are working hard on our Daily Sentence Structures with great success and we will continue to practise and embed these into our creative writing. We will also be practising our Grammar, Punctuation and Spelling (GPS) including inverted commas, apostrophes for possession and contraction and revising the word classes ready for Year 5 and 6.
Maths: We will be focusing on decimals and reasoning and problem solving involving measure. We will of course keep practising our mental maths including times tables which underpin so many skills in maths.
Topic: We are focusing on social history this term, looking at crime and punishment across the ages. We will be investigating the punishments of the eras and comparing them to see how the justice system has evolved over the years and asking lots of questions to form our opinions.
Science: We will be continuing to practise our investigative skills. This term we will be doing this through the topic, ‘Sound’.
PE: Swimming, basketball and badminton at the Sports Centre. After half term we will be doing athletics with the sports coaches and look forward to an athletics competition at Staindrop at the end of the training and also our Multi-skills festival.
RE: We are returning to the topic of Hinduism, exploring what Hindus believe about God and how they represent their God.
French: We are revising numbers, greetings and simple conversation.
Art: We are ‘portraying relationships’ through different mediums. We are also critically evaluating our own and others’ pieces.
Weekly homework consists of:
· Maths / English activity
· Reading at least 4 times a week (please sign the reading record to say your child has read regularly at home each week).
· Practising times tables!
Thank you as always for your continued support,
