Summer Term 2019
Welcome back to our last term as a Year 2. I hope you enjoyed your Easter break. We are very excited for the Summer Term and aim to fit in as much as we can over the next term with lots of fun and interesting lessons planned.
Our new Topic will be ‘Transportation and Structures’ and throughout the term we will be learning about different structures around the world. This will allow us to investigate materials as well as allow us to become designers and engineers by building our very own structures. We’ve already attempted to build a bridge out of spaghetti and marshmallows – it was very messy!
In English, we will continue to master and improve our sentence structure skills to develop our writing. There will be a lot of focus on spelling, punctuation and grammar, and children will have plenty of opportunities to apply these skills to their creative writing.
In Maths we will be working on number skills including addition, subtraction, multiplication and division. Throughout the term we will apply this knowledge to a range of problem solving activities including shape, space and measures. We will also develop our knowledge about fractions and statistics.
We will be investigating materials during our Science lessons and will use our exploration skills to help us understand different materials and their uses. We will also be conducting some simple experiments.
All the children will attend the multi skills festival at Staindrop Academy on Thursday 11th July 2019. Our normal PE lessons will be on a Wednesday and Friday.
Watch this space for a possible school trip in the summer.
We have a very exciting term ahead!
